There is goodness in everyone. When it activates and truly comes alive, great things can happen.
The best way we know to bring it out is to volunteer. Whether it’s for an hour, a day, once a week or once a month, you can create a tremendous impact on another person’s life.

Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness can make all the difference. Many in our community have faced great turmoil during the ongoing pandemic, and taking a moment to show local students, seniors, frontline workers and veterans that the community cares can put a bright spot in their day. Take a moment to show your support by writing a note of encouragement!
One of United Way NCA’s three pillars of impact is education, focusing on middle schoolers in Title I schools throughout our region. Help students in need advance their education by volunteering to create a financial literacy kit or a school-preparedness kit, which provides essential tools necessary for children to be successful in school.
For many in our community, especially members of the ALICE population, meeting basic needs on a low income is not possible. You can make a difference by supporting community members in need! From healthy meals and snacks to hygiene kits and cold-weather kits, United Way NCA volunteer opportunities provide basic needs and more to those who need it most.
Bring encouragement to veterans in our area! Many veterans transitioning into civilian life are in need of typical household items to help them get started in their new homes. Volunteer with us to prepare Veteran Move-In Kits, which include items such as sponges, dish towels, bedsheets, laundry baskets and more.
Use your expertise for good! Whether you are a business owner or a professional high up in their career, you can help community members advance their own careers through volunteer opportunities like resume writing, career days and more. With the support of community members like you, we can advance the economic opportunity of the National Capital Area.
